Security Whitepaper

Enterprise Security Architecture

A comprehensive overview of how HotelStack protects your property data, guest information, and financial transactions with enterprise-grade security controls.

12 Countries 500+ Properties Zero Breaches

Section 1

Executive Summary

HotelStack is built on a security-first architecture designed to protect sensitive hospitality data at every layer. Our platform processes millions of transactions monthly across 500+ properties in 12 countries, maintaining zero data breaches since inception.

This whitepaper details our comprehensive security posture, covering infrastructure architecture, data protection mechanisms, compliance frameworks, incident response procedures, and the certifications that validate our commitment to enterprise-grade security.

Our security program is continuously audited by independent third-party firms and undergoes quarterly penetration testing to identify and remediate vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.

Section 2

Architecture Overview

HotelStack employs a multi-tenant SaaS architecture with complete tenant isolation at the database, compute, and network layers. Each property operates within an isolated schema with row-level security (RLS) policies enforced at the PostgreSQL engine level.

Our infrastructure runs on a geographically distributed cloud platform with automatic failover, ensuring 99.99% uptime SLA. All inter-service communication uses mutual TLS (mTLS) with certificate rotation every 72 hours.

The application layer implements a zero-trust network model where every request is authenticated, authorized, and encrypted regardless of network location.

Key Controls

  • Multi-region active-active deployment
  • Kubernetes orchestration with auto-scaling
  • Edge CDN with DDoS mitigation (100 Tbps capacity)
  • Private VPC with network segmentation
  • Hardware Security Modules (HSM) for key management
  • Immutable infrastructure with infrastructure-as-code

Section 3

Data Protection

All data at rest is encrypted using AES-256-GCM with tenant-isolated encryption keys managed through FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certified Hardware Security Modules. Encryption keys rotate automatically every 90 days.

In-transit encryption uses TLS 1.3 exclusively, with HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) headers, certificate transparency monitoring, and automated certificate renewal.

Sensitive guest PII such as passport numbers, government IDs, and payment card data receives field-level encryption with separate key hierarchies.

Key Controls

  • AES-256-GCM encryption at rest
  • TLS 1.3 with perfect forward secrecy
  • Field-level encryption for PII
  • FIPS 140-2 Level 3 HSM key management
  • 90-day automatic key rotation
  • Data masking in non-production environments
  • Automated PII discovery and classification
  • Right to erasure (GDPR Article 17) automation

Section 4

Compliance

HotelStack maintains compliance with major global regulatory frameworks including GDPR, CCPA, PCI DSS Level 1, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001.

For properties operating in regulated markets, we provide built-in compliance tools: C-Form and FRRO reporting for India, VAT automation for the EU, tax compliance for US states.

Our Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) are available for all customers, and we maintain a comprehensive data processing register.

Key Controls

  • GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation)
  • CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)
  • PCI DSS Level 1 (Payment Card Industry)
  • SOC 2 Type II (Trust Service Criteria)
  • ISO 27001 (Information Security Management)
  • HIPAA-Ready infrastructure
  • India IT Act 2000 & DPDP Act 2023
  • UAE PDPL compliance

Section 5

Infrastructure Security

Our infrastructure security encompasses physical, network, and application layers. Physical security is provided by Tier IV data centers with biometric access controls and 24/7 monitoring.

Network security includes Web Application Firewalls (WAF), intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), DDoS protection with 100 Tbps mitigation capacity.

Application security practices include static and dynamic code analysis in CI/CD pipelines, dependency vulnerability scanning, and quarterly third-party penetration testing.

Key Controls

  • Tier IV data center hosting
  • WAF with custom rule sets
  • IDS/IPS with real-time threat intelligence
  • Container security scanning
  • Secrets management with HashiCorp Vault
  • Immutable deployment artifacts
  • Automated security patching (<24h SLA)
  • Network microsegmentation

Section 6

Incident Response

HotelStack maintains a documented Incident Response Plan (IRP) with defined severity levels, escalation procedures, and communication protocols.

Our Security Operations Center (SOC) provides 24/7/365 monitoring with automated alerting. Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) targets are under 15 minutes for critical incidents.

All security incidents are documented with root cause analysis, remediation actions, and preventive measures. Customers are notified within 72 hours as required by GDPR.

Key Controls

  • 24/7/365 Security Operations Center
  • MTTD < 15 minutes for critical incidents
  • MTTR < 1 hour for critical incidents
  • Quarterly tabletop exercises
  • Annual red team assessments
  • Automated incident classification
  • 72-hour breach notification SLA
  • Post-incident review and lessons learned

Section 7

Certifications & Audits

Our security posture is independently validated through regular third-party audits and industry certifications. SOC 2 Type II reports are generated annually.

Penetration testing is conducted quarterly by CREST-certified assessors, covering web applications, APIs, mobile applications, and internal infrastructure.

We participate in a responsible disclosure program with a dedicated security email and published security.txt file.

Key Controls

  • SOC 2 Type II (annual)
  • PCI DSS Level 1 (annual)
  • ISO 27001 certified
  • Quarterly penetration testing (CREST)
  • Continuous vulnerability scanning
  • Bug bounty program
  • Annual security awareness training
  • Vendor security assessments
